Midjourney V8.1 now ships as default model

Midjourney has made V8.1 its default model, with faster renders and better prompt control.

Midjourney’s switch to V8.1 gives users a clearer baseline for everyday image generation. The update says SD images arrive in 4 seconds, HD in 12 seconds, and HD output is 4x the resolution of V7.

1. V8.1 becomes the new default

The biggest change is simple: Midjourney has moved the default model from V7 to V8.1 after testing and user feedback. That means new jobs now start from the newer model unless you choose something else.
